Making a dua list for Ramadan should be our goal. Why? Because Ramadan is a special time for us Muslims when we focus on our faith and connect with Allah. One way we do this is through dua, which is like talking to Allah s.w.t. As Ramadan 2024 approaches, we’ll explore how to make a Ramadan dua list easier with the help of Islamic teachings.
Why is it important to make a dua list for Ramadan?
- Ramadan is a special time for Muslims:
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and the devils are chained” (Sahih al-Bukhari).
This is probably my favorite hadith about Ramadan. It shows that this is the best time for us to focus on getting closer to Allah instead of partying with food and gifts. Although of course there is no harm in celebrating, just be mindful to focus on improving your relationship with Allah first. 🙂
- During Ramadan, we believe Allah listens more:
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “The supplication of every one of you will be granted if he does not get impatient and say [for example]: ‘I supplicated my Lord but my prayer has not been granted'” (Sahih al-Bukhari).
It’s like having His full attention when the gates of heaven are opened, so when we ask for something (make dua), it’s more likely to be heard.
- Ramadan helps us be extra good:
“O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous” (Quran 2:183).
We do lots of prayers and good deeds to show our love for Allah and try to fix any mistakes we’ve made.

- Fasting helps us feel closer to Allah:
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Allah said, ‘Every deed of the son of Adam is for him, except fasting; it is for Me, and I shall reward for it'” (Sahih al-Bukhari).
When we fast (don’t eat or drink during daylight hours), it helps us understand how others feel when they don’t have enough to eat.
- Special prayers at night:
“And from [part of] the night, pray with it as additional [worship] for you; it is expected that your Lord will resurrect you to a praised station” (Quran 17:79).
We have extra prayers at night where we can talk to Allah and ask for anything we need or want.
- Laylat al-Qadr is super special:
“Indeed, We sent the Quran down during the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months” (Quran 97:1-3).
It’s like finding a golden ticket! We believe any prayers we make on this night are extra powerful, so we try to make lots of wishes then.
- Ramadan is a time of hope and forgiveness:
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever fasts Ramadan out of faith and expectation of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)
It’s like having a direct line to Allah for a whole month, where we can ask for anything we need and trust that He’s listening extra carefully.
Understanding the Power of having a Ramadan Dua List
Imam Al-Nawawi said:
“Remember, dear believers, that the power of dua is immense. It has the ability to alter destinies and change the course of our lives. Never underestimate the potency of your supplications to Allah.”
Dua is basically asking Allah s.w.t for things we need or want. It’s really important in Islam because it shows our trust in Allah. Scholars say dua can change things and help us in our lives.
Benefits of Making a Dua List for Ramadan
Making a list of things we want to ask Allah for during Ramadan is helpful. It helps us remember what’s important to us and makes our prayers more focused. Islamic teachers say Ramadan is a great time for dua because it’s when Allah listens to us the most.
Creating a dua list for Ramadan in Islam is important for a few simple reasons
1. Getting Closer to Allah s.w.t:
Abu Umamah (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Indeed, Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, descends to the lowest heaven every night when one-third of the latter part of the night remains, saying: ‘Who supplicates Me so that I may answer him? Who asks Me so that I may give to him? Who asks Me forgiveness so that I may forgive him?'” (Jami` at-Tirmidhi)
Ramadan is like a special time when Muslims try extra hard to connect with Allah. Making a dua list for Ramadan helps us do this by focusing our prayers and thoughts on what really matters to us.
2. Thinking About Everything:
When we make our dua list for Ramadan, we think about all the different things going on in our lives—like school, family, health, and friends. It’s a chance to tell Allah what we’re happy about and what we need help with.

3. Extra Help from Allah:
During Ramadan, Muslims believe that Allah pays extra attention to our prayers. So, by making a dua list for Ramadan and praying more during this time, we’re more likely to get the help and blessings we ask for.
4. Growing as People:
Abu Huraira (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “In every day and every night, during the month of Ramadan, there are people to whom Allah grants freedom from the Fire, and there is for every Muslim a supplication which he can make and will be granted.” (Sunan Ibn Majah)
Making a dua list for Ramadan isn’t just about asking for stuff. It’s also about thinking about what’s really important to us and how we can become better people. It’s like a chance to reflect and grow.
5. Feeling Connected:
Sharing our dua list for Ramadan with our family and friends helps us feel closer to them. We pray for each other’s needs and support one another, which makes us feel like we’re all in it together.
6. Following a Good Example:
Aisha (RA) reported: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to strive more in worship during Ramadan than he strove in any other time of the year, and he would devote himself more (in the worship of Allah) in the last ten nights of Ramadan than he strove in earlier part of the month.” (Sahih Muslim)
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to make lots of duas, especially during Ramadan. So, when we make our dua list for Ramadan, we’re following his example and trying to be more like him.
